Easter

Who knew?!  When I was looking for images that represented the last supper, I came across this Lego Last Supper.  I thought I'd put it up here because one of the activities from our "Family Pages" this month is to look up images through the ages of the Last Supper.  Found one for you!  Enjoy looking at some other ones with your parents.
One other activity from the "Family Pages" that I really like is to have a deck of cards (number cards only) on the breakfast table  that everyone chooses from.  Once you choose a card, you complete that number of acts of service each day.  Could be anything from setting the table to giving a hug.  Be creative!

Think Purple

Think purple.

It will remind you of the story of LYDIA from Acts 16 vs 11-15.   Lydia was a seller of purple fabric when Paul was travelling around telling people about Jesus.  This kind of fabric was very special and expensive for people to buy.  Not only was Lydia a woman who had her own business, she would have been very wealthy.  Purple means royalty, wealth and importance.

Lydia
was an important, wealthy person who was soooo eager to hear the truth about JESUS.  The bible says she "listened with an open heart" to Paul as he talked about JESUS.  That's fabulous.  Have you ever been listening to your teacher...but not really listening.  The kind of listening that really means you are planning what you are going to do at recess while the teacher is talking.    I know I've done that.  LYDIA though, listened to Paul talk about JESUS and then got baptized right away.  Not only did she get baptized she started inviting Paul and his friends over to her house.  She wanted to share what she had with them and treat them in her home.  LYDIA listened with an open heart about JESUS, believed, got baptized and then began serving GOD.  She is an example of what we should do as we hear the message of JESUS.

Remember purple. Remember Lydia.

Following Jesus

Happy New Year!
We are starting the New Year in Lighthouse off by talking about the Disciples.  Check out Matthew 4 where Jesus asks the first two Disciples to come and follow him.

"Jesus called out to them, 'Come follow me and I will show you how to fish for people!' And they left their nets at once and followed him."

The Disciples have a moment when they really, truly get who Jesus is when they pull of the nets of fish.   They immediately drop everything and follow Jesus.  We could say they STOPPED, DROPPED and FOLLOWED!  Click on the link to this video and watch the scripture be acted out...http://www.sermoncentral.com/videos/video-illustration-calling-of-the-first-disciples-childrens-bigbookmedia-kids-jesus-gospel-32096.asp

Over the next four weeks we will be finding out who the Disciples were,  how they reacted when they met Jesus and what it means to be a Disciple.  If you follow Jesus, you are a Disciple too!

Check out these two links when you get finished watching the video about Jesus calling His Disciples in Matthew and see if you can figure out this word search and word scramble!

Parents if you are looking for an activity for your younger ones then check out this colouring page.
That's all for now.  I'll see you all upstairs on Sunday mornings!

Christmas

It's the most wonderful time!
While it still feels like Christmas is a long way off and waiting is hard...we are starting to talk about the Christmas story and what that means for our lives in Lighthouse this Sunday.  We will begin to unwrap the meaning of Christmas over the next 5 weeks.  Come on out and bring your friends!

Advent Challenge!
Celebrate Jesus' birth by giving a gift to someone each week of Advent.
This doesn't have to a gift that costs money.  It can be an act of kindness that you pass on to someone else.  Maybe even someone you find hard to love!
Give a hug...
Say something kind to someone who needs it...
Play with someone who gets left out...
Share something you have with someone else...
Be creative!!

Some dates for you and your parents to get on the calendar are:

Nov. 21- pageant practice after church
Nov. 28- pageant practice after church
Dec. 5-    pageant practice during and after church (potluck Sunday)
Dec. 12- Christmas Pageant during the morning Service.

David

Last month we spent time talking about the story Jesus told about the wise man  building his house on the rock.  We learned that God is the Rock and we should build our lives on Him!

This month we will be talking about the story of David.  God chooses David to be King of the Israelites early (when he was a kid) and David does some amazing things for God.  Let's learn together from David's life about how God chooses us too and gives us courage to do wonderful things.

Here is a link to a cartoon about the story of David and Goliath.  Make sure you get your parents to help you access the link! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7WT4Y08o_s&NR=1&feature=fvwp

PARENTS-  this is a youtube video so you will want to watch this video with your kids and make sure they are safely using the site.  You might remember this "vintage" cartoon!
